SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior swimmers Spencer Raymond and Elyse McDonough and sophomore men’s lacrosse performer Greg Rommel were named to the CoSIDA All-Academic District I At-Large Team on May 27.
Raymond and Rommel were selected to men’s District I second team and McDonough was a women’s District I second-team choice.
Raymond, the school-record holder in the 100-meter breast stroke, served as a team captain in 2004. He was a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll seven times in his Syracuse career. Earlier this month Raymond earned his bachelor’s degree in finance.
Rommel has appeared in all 15 games for the Orange so far this season and has recorded 11 points. He notched his first career hat trick earlier this year versus Notre Dame and he has been selected to the Athletic Director’s Honor in his first three semesters at SU. Rommel and the rest of the men’s lacrosse team will battle top-seeded Johns Hopkins in the national semifinals on May 29. He is a bio-engineering major.
McDonough qualified for the 2004 NCAA Championship in the 200-meter fly and the 200-meter IM and was the 2004 BIG EAST Champion in the 200-meter fly. She holds nine school records and was a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. McDonough was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll seven times at Syracuse and she was a recipient of the 2003-04 BIG EAST Aereopostale Scholar-Athlete Award. McDonough also won the 2004 Soladay Award, the most prestigious honor bestowed on an SU student-athlete. McDonough graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in television-radio-film.
