Hernandez Earns All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas – Syracuse junior Johvonne Hernandez earned All-America status after finishing 11th in the hammer throw finals at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championship hosted by the University of Texas. Hernandez was one of the top eight Americans in the event.
Hernandez's best throw of the finals was 58.45 meters (191'9"). She advanced to the finals with a school-record throw of 61.69 meters (202’5”) in the preliminaries. Hernandez’s previous best was a 61.59 meter throw that gave her the BIG EAST title.
Hernandez is SU's 44th track & field All-American. She is the first Orange student-athlete to earn All-America honors in the hammer throw since Kim Johnson in 1996.
The hammer throw was one of three events that Hernandez competed in. She finished 23rd in the discus with a throw of 49.40 meters (162'1") and 27th in the shot put with a throw of 14.62 meters (47'11.75").
