The award is given to a school’s football program for having a graduation rate of more than 70 percent. This year marks the 14th time in the last 18 years, and the 10th time during head coach Paul Pasqualoni’s 13-year tenure that SU has been honored with this award.
The Orange class of 2003 includes 2003 Academic All-Americans Rich Scanlon (first team), Nick Romeo (second team), and Josh Thomas (All-District I selection).
Syracuse is one of only seven schools to be recognized 14 or more times since the AFCA began its honorable mention program in 1987. The other schools are Boston College, Duke, Notre Dame, Rice, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
The 1999 Syracuse football team won the 2000 AFCA Academic Achievement Award for having a graduation rate of 100 percent.
