Former SU Rowers Win Bronze in Athens

SYRACUSE, NY – Former Syracuse University student-athletes Froukje Wegman and Helen Tanger rowed bow and stroke as part of the Dutch women’s eight which won an Olympic bronze medal Sunday in Athens, Greece.
The Dutch rowers came from behind finishing the final 500 meters with the best time and completing the race in 6:19.85.
Tanger and Wegman were members of SU’s varsity eight squad in 2001 which finished sixth at the NCAA Championships, the best-ever finish for the Orange, and were BIG EAST Champions. They have been on the Dutch national team since leaving Syracuse in 2001.
