SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women’s basketball head coach Keith Cieplicki announced today that Matt Luneau has been named the program’s associate head coach. Luneau was an assistant coach with the team last season.
In his first season with the Orange, Luneau, Syracuse’s recruiting coordinator, was instrumental in landing the 24th-best recruiting class in the nation according to the Blue Star Scouting Service. It was the first time in school history that Blue Star rated one of the Orange’s recruiting classes in its top 25.
“Coach Luneau brings tremendous knowledge and energy to the program,” Cipelicki said. “He is an outstanding recruiter and one of the finest young coaches in the women’s game. He is a great person who works tirelessly for the success of his student-athletes.”
Luneau coached for one season as an assistant Cieplicki's staff at Vermont prior to his arrival in Syracuse. Before joining Cieplicki in Burlington, Luneau spent five seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach at Siena College. During his tenure with the Saints, the team won the MAAC regular-season championship four times. The 2000-01 team captured the school's first-ever MAAC Tournament title, earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Luneau earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Johnson State in 1991 and a master's degree in special education from The College of St. Rose in 1997. He and his wife, Ilze, have two daughters, Iliana and Marika.
