Members of the Syracuse community who attended the 2004 Football 101 session are geared up for the start of the Orange football season. The 2004 football squad begins its season on Sunday, September 5 at Purdue. The game will kickoff at 1:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC.
Football 101, the popular free clinic for women conducted by the Syracuse University coaching staff is held in the Iocolano-Petty Football Complex every summer. The program offers women the opportunity to ask questions about any topic concerning college football and have the SU coaching staff provide the insight and answers.
SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor included Football 101 on the schedule for her first official day as the leader of the University. Cantor and her daughter, Maddy, who are both knowledgeable football fans, met the Orange coaches and learned about the SU program.
“My wife Jill has played an integral part in developing this clinic,” said SU head coach Paul Pasqualoni. “We’re excited to meet directly with our female football fans and provide them with some insight and a behind-the-scenes perspective of the game.”
The program included Pasqualoni’s “inside the huddle” perspective of the program, explanation of the Bowl Championship Series and the Bowl System, the challenges of coaching at the collegiate level, explanation of the rules of college football, insight regarding the impact of special teams, background on defensive strategy and game-planning, recruiting, strength and conditioning and sports medicine issues, and much more.
A pre-game “tailgate reception,” featuring Paqualoni’s wife, tours of the football facility and locker room, door prizes and free SU football posters for everyone attending, are a few of the features of the program.
Attendees submit their questions about SU football in advance of the clinic via fax or email.
