BUFFALO, N.Y. – Syracuse junior Jenna Richter scored from 10 yards out after a University at Buffalo defender headed a corner kick away from the goal in the 109th minute to give the Orange (2-0-0) a 1-0 double-overtime win at Buffalo’s RAC Field on Sunday afternoon.
Richter fired the ball to the left of Buffalo goalkeeper Anna Lesa Calvert, for her first career goal, handing Buffalo (0-2-0) its first loss in a home-opener since September 10, 1993.
In the first overtime, senior Stephanie Sybert had a chance to win it, but her shot on a breakaway sailed over the net.
Senior Shannon Myers stopped five shot for her 12th career shutout and second-straight, while Calvert stopped eight shots for the Bulls.
The win marks the third time in four years that Syracuse has opened the season 2-0-0. The Orange returns to action Friday, Sept. 3 to host Colgate at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
