
SU Returns Home to Take On Binghamton

The Syracuse volleyball team returns from a four-match road-stretch to face Binghamton on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Manley Field House
Syracuse has begun the 2004 season with an 11-1 record. This marks the best record to begin the season in the SU volleyball program history. The Orange had tied its record for most consecutive wins to open the season with nine, which it did in 1991.
The Bearcats are 5-6 on the young season after going 2-2 last weekend. Binghamton defeated Akron, 3-2, and Jacksonville, 3-1. Like Syracuse, Binghamton opened its season against Buffalo, but the Bearcats were defeated, 3-0. Anne Crocus leads Binghamton with a 4.18 kills per game average and 1.59 blocks per game. Ashley Meffert is the leading setter with a 11.13 assists per game average, and she leads the Bearcats with a 3.15 digs per game average.
Syracuse leads the overall series 11-2.
ORANGE LOVES NEW YORK
During the 2004 season, Syracuse is slated to face 11 New York teams. The Orange is currently 5-0 against New York teams. SU has beaten Buffalo, Army, Manhattan, Siena and Colgate. The Orange will look to make its record 6-0 when it faces Binghamton.
ORANGE ON TV
Time Warner Channel 26 of Syracuse will be at the SU vs. Binghamton match. The match will be shown on a tape delay basis on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. and again on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2:30 p.m.
JONES AND MALCOM NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Senior Morgan Jones and freshman Jen Malcom were named to the Denver Tournament All-Tournament Team, the first all-tournament selection for both of the season. Jones led the Orange with 31 kills on 78 attempts. She also had nine digs and six block assists. Malcom led the team in blocking with four solo blocks and 15 block assists for 19 total blocks. She also had 16 kills on 57 attempts.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Orange will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for its final tournament of the regular season, the Pennsylvania Tournament. SU will play Saturday, Sept. 25 against Northeastern at 10:00 a.m. and St. Francis at 5:30 p.m. The Orange will play host Pennsylvania on the final day of the tournament, Sunday, Sept. 26 at 12:30 p.m.
