SYRACUSE, NY – A minimum of three trips to Madison Square Garden during the course of the season is included on the 2004-05 Syracuse men’s basketball schedule announced on Friday, September 3. The Orange has accepted an invitation to participate in the annual Jimmy V. Classic on December 7 in a pairing with Oklahoma State. Syracuse will also meet BIG EAST Conference rival St. John’s in the Garden on January 5 and will participate in the conference tournament in New York City. A fourth venture to Madison Square Garden may also be on the itinerary if the Orange wins first- and second-round games in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
The Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament features four first-round sites, including the Carrier Dome, where Syracuse will host Bucknell, Northern Colorado and Princeton. The winner of two games will advance to New York for a semifinal matchup on November 18. A consolation game and championship tilt are scheduled for the following night.
Syracuse opens the conference portion of its schedule on January 5 against St. John’s. SU will close out the regular season against defending national champion Connecticut on March 5 in Gampel Pavilion. The Orange has home-and-home pairings with Connecticut, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Providence, each an NCAA Tournament team last year, as well as St. John’s.
Syracuse is scheduled to entertain LeMoyne (Nov. 2) and Saint Rose (Nov. 8) in exhibition games at the Dome. The Orange and the Dolphins have met five times during the regular season, the most recent in 1994.
