
Wagner Records Career-High 13 Saves in Loss to Richmond

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Senior goalkeeper Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy) recorded a career-high 13 saves, but it was not enough as Richmond posted a 2-0 field hockey victory against Syracuse at Coyne Field. The visiting Spiders improved to 3-0 on the season. The Orange, playing in its first home game of the season, is now 0-2.
Amanda Florio put the Spiders ahead, 1-0, with her rebound goal at the 29:04 mark of the first half. Holly Cram gave Richmond its second goal with 18:39 remaining in the period.
Syracuse attempted eight shots in the first half, including a penalty-stroke opportunity by sophomore forward Ashley Fry (Douglassville, Pa./Oley Valley HS) which was denied by Richmond goalie Michelle Swartz.
Swartz finished with seven saves. Wagner saved seven of Richmond's 10 shots in the second half. The Orange applied pressure towards the end of the game and were able to force four penalty corners, but could not find the back of the cage.
Richmond outshot Syracuse 20-12. Both teams attempted nine penalty corners.
The Orange return to action tomorrow, Sept. 6, against Pacific at 12 p.m.
