SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SU men’s and women’s soccer teams will help celebrate Youth Soccer Month during a pair of home matches held at the Lampe Complex Soccer Stadium in September. “Youth Soccer Celebrations” will take place on Saturday, September 11th as the men match skills with Boston College at 1:00 p.m., and on Friday, September 17th when the women face off with St. John’s at 7:00 p.m.
“Youth Soccer Celebrations” at Syracuse will bring local youth teams to the collegiate games where children will have the opportunity to receive Youth Soccer Month premiums as well as participate in a host of promotions to win Youth Soccer Month prize packs.
Soccer is the United States' leading youth participation sport, and the SU events will promote the four messages of fitness, family, friendship and fun inherent in playing soccer.
Throughout September, a series of messages and themes will be communicated to illustrate the essence of youth soccer through a series of national and grassroots events.
The four pillars of Youth Soccer Month are:
· Fitness: The health and fitness (physical, psychological and social) benefits of playing soccer.
· Friendship: The relationships and fun generated through playing soccer and their extension beyond the field.
· Family: Playing soccer ties families together as schedules, vacations and family time are coordinated.
· Fun: Whether recreational or competitive in nature, involvement in soccer is easy, affordable and rewarding.
Youth Soccer Month will also highlight the various programs available to children interested in participating in soccer, including the inner-city, special needs, recreational and elite soccer programs that have facilitated the growth of the sport at all levels.
Additionally, one lucky youth soccer family will win an all expenses paid trip to the 2005 US Youth Soccer National Championships next July at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL.
