MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Syracuse women’s rowing team will be training in Melbourne, Fla. from January 6-15. This is the Orange’s first of two trips to Melbourne, the team will return to the Sunshine State for its spring training March 10-19.
On its trip in March, the Orange will have its first spring competition, a scrimmage versus Connecticut on March 11. The Orange is preparing for a tough schedule. SU starts the season at Boston University on March 26. The team then travels to Connecticut to face Cornell and Yale on April 2, before heading back to Boston for competitions against Pennsylvania and Northeastern on April 9. SU hosts Harvard and Dartmouth the weekend before the BIG EAST Championship on April 24 in Worcester, Mass. The Orange closes its schedule with Massachusetts and Villanova at home on April 30 and the Eastern Sprints in Camden, N.J. on May 15. The ultimate goal will be to qualify for the NCAA Championship in Sacramento, Calif. on May 26-28.
“We have athletic talent,” head coach Kris Sanford said. “We need to put it together. We have a smaller team this year, so we can’t afford injuries. But, that also means that everyone on the team has a definite place and will be expected to contribute.”
