SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A pair of freshman receivers will look to make their mark when the Orange takes the field against Rutgers on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 12:00 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised by ESPN Regional. Tickets are available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX).
Freshmen Bruce Williams and Nick Chestnut will see more playing time this weekend.
“With the receiving corps, I don’t see two starters," said head coach Greg Robinson. "I see four starters because it’s constant rotation. I felt like we lost Bruce Williams in the mix the other night (at Connecticut), and we need to make sure that he is in the flow of that because Bruce has brought a consistency since day one.”
Among the rotation of four receivers will be Chestnut, who has caught two passes this season, both for touchdowns of 30 and 33 yards, and Williams, who has played in all five games this year and has one reception. Chestnut is the first true freshman wide receiver to have touchdown catches in back to back games since Quinton Spotwood in 1996 (Minnesota and Virginia Tech). Williams is the first true freshman to play in a season-opener since Maurice Jackson played against Wisconsin the 1997 Kickoff Classic.
