PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Redshirt freshman Pete Rowley ripped five shots, including two on goal, as the Orange lost to Rutgers, 3-0, in BIG EAST action tonight. Zach Simi had a hand in all three goals for the Scarlet Knights, as he scored once and assisted on two others.
Rutgers took a 1-0 first half lead when Simi found Adam Sternberger on a cross. Sternberger then put a shot past freshman goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia from a mere five yards out into the back of the net.
In the second half, Rutgers scored two goals in 26 seconds to put the game out of reach. Simi notched his second goal of the season after the two teams juggled for possession. Simi ended up with the ball, and put a shot over Cavicchia’s head for the 2-0 lead.
Simi assisted on his second goal of the game when he found Chris Moore in an open field, who then tapped the ball in for the third goal of the night for the Scarlet Knights.
Cavicchia had two saves in the match, while his counterpart Matt Vanoekel had four.
