SYRACUSE, N.Y. – SU takes the field for the last time in the Dome when it hosts South Florida on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on Homecoming Weekend. The first-ever meeting between the two teams will be highlighted by the retiring of the legendary #44 in a special halftime ceremony. Tickets are still available online (click here) or by calling the Carrier Dome Box Office at 1-888-DOMETIX.
The 2005 seniors will be honored during a pre-game ceremony on the field. Among the departing seniors is Anthony Smith, who is second in the nation in interceptions and third in passes defended, and Damien Rhodes, who needs just six yards to break into the top 10 in rushing yards all-time at SU.
At halftime, #44 will be raised to the roof of the Dome as it is the first football jersey to be retired at Syracuse. The jersey was worn by SU greats such as Ernie Davis, Jim Brown, and Floyd Little. Brown, Little, Davis’ mother Marie Fleming, Rob Konrad, Michael Owens, Bill Schoonover, and Tom Stephens will all be in attendance as their former jersey is retired.
Among the Homecoming events leading up to the football game is the 2005 Homecoming Awards Ceremony and Reception on Friday, which will take place in the Panasci Lounge at the Schine Center. Later that day, the Homecoming Parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. from the Schine Center to the Vielbig Outdoor Track, which is then followed by a pep rally on the track at 7:00 p.m. A fireworks finale can be seen from the track behind Manley Field House at 7:20 p.m.
