LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 17, 2005 – Seniors Kelly Duan, Kristen Conway, and Aila Dommestrup were each named to All-BIG EAST teams, announced tonight at the conference's annual banquet in Louisville. Duan and Conway earned First Team accolades, while Dommestrup was selected to the Second Team.
Duan was one of four unanimous selections to the First Team. This season, she is averaging a school record 4.30 kills per game. Duan is just the third player in SU history to eclipse the 500 kills mark in a season with 503. That currently stands as the third-highest total in a single season.
For her career, Duan ranks eighth all-time at SU in kills with 1,078, while her 2.96 career kills per game average is also eighth. Her 315 total blocks in her four years on the hill puts her in sixth all-time. Also, Duan ranks seventh in SU history in digs with a 2.41 average.
Conway earned First Team honors after being named to the Second Team last season. She is second on the team in kills (380), kills per game (3.30), digs (266), and digs per game (2.31). In her four-year career, Conway ranks second all-time in attacks with 4,146, just 39 away from the all-time leader, Dana Fiume. Her 1,486 career kills is third all-time in Orange history. Conway has averaged 9.64 attacks per game in her career, which is well ahead of the second place student-athlete.
Dommestrup, a 2004 All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection, earned Second Team honors after averaging a school-record 11.91 assists per game average in the regular season. Her 1,334 assists this year is the fifth-best single-season mark in history, and she will move up that list as she is just four away from the next slot. Dommestrup has compiled 4,054 assists in her four years, which is second all-time to Noreen Carroll. Also, her 9.70 assists per game average is second all-time.
The third-seeded Orange takes on sixth-seeded Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals of the 2005 BIG EAST Championship. The match is set for Friday, Nov. 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Kentucky International Convention Center.
