Syracuse sprinted to a 24-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, and at halftime had set a Carrier Dome record with 45 points. SU used a variety of plays – a blocked punt, a 100-yard kickoff return, a fumble return for a touchdown, two interceptions – in getting the job done.
Miami recovered from an early 17-0 deficit by scoring with 44 seconds left in the opening period, but the Orange came right back. On the ensuing kickoff, Kevin Johnson tied an SU record with a 100-yard return to the end zone. The Orange defense limited the Hurricanes to 210 yards of total offense.
The Syracuse men’s basketball team has won all six of its games played in the Dome on this date. Most recently, the Orange defeated Colgate, 70-51, in 2001. Syracuse set a school record with 16 blocks as Craig Forth led the way with seven. Kueth Duany was SU’s leading scorer and rebounder with 17 points and eight rebounds.

In 1984, three players reached double figures in scoring, led by Andre Hawkins’ and Wendell Alexis’ 11 points each, in a 65-53 victory.

In 1981, the Rolling Stones played in front of 43,000 for the second straight night.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with these photos.
