Swimming and Diving to Compete in Nutmeg Invitational

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to New Haven, Conn. for this weekend’s Yale Nutmeg Invitational. Swimming sessions begin Saturday at noon, while diving begins at 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, swimming will begin at 12 p.m. with diving set for a 10 a.m. start.
Both the men’s and women’s teams are coming off fifth place finishes at the Nike Cup hosted the University of North Carolina, Nov. 17-19. The Orange broke four school records to highlight the weekend with Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) posting a new school-best mark in the 100-breaststroke. It was the second meet in a row that Boral had a record setting performance as he ousted his own Webster Pool record in 200-breaststroke against Pittsburgh. Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla.) had a record breaking performance in the 400-individual medley relay at the Nike Cup.
In relay action, Melissa Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Petra Zavadilova (Olomovc, Czech Republic), Sarah Manning (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Randi Beaulieu (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) set a new school record in the 200-freestyle, while Catrina Roth (Aurora, Ill), Katie Maaske (Jacksonville, Fla.), Zavadilova and Beaulieu had a record breaking time in the 200-medley relay.
This weekend’s event is the final pre-holiday meet for the swimming and diving teams as they will resume action Jan. 2-10 at the Puerto Rico Invitational.
