Josh Scott will be shooting for a medal in the finals of the men's 200 freestyle on Friday night. He will compete against teammate Wes Matson who also qualified for the 200 freestyle finals.
Seven Swimmers to Compete in Finals on Third Night of BIG EAST Championship

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- Senior Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif.) and freshman Katie Maaske (Jacksonville, Fla.) have shots at winning BIG EAST Conference medals on the third night of competition at the 2005 league championship meet. Scott placed third in the preliminaries of the men's 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.63, while Maaske was third in the women's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.70. It would be the second medal of the championship for Scott, who helped SU's 800 freestyle relay win silver on the first night of competition. Maaske would be the first freshman, female swimmer to finish in the top three since Kalei Mahi took third place in the 100 breaststroke in 2001.
Sophomore Wes Matson (Wichita, Kansas) is proving to have a "break-out" performance at this year's conference championship meet. He will swim against Scott in the finals of the men's 200 freestyle. Matson was fifth in the prelims with a time of 1:40.50. He was also part of SU's 800 freestyle relay that captured a silver medal on the first night.
Sophomore Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) will compete in the finals of the men's 100 breaststroke. He was fifth in the morning prelims with a time of 56.61.
Junior Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.) finished top eight in the men's 400 individual medley. He was fifth with a time of 3:59.23.
Senior Mike Anstrom (Springfield, Va.) will do his best to win the finals of the men's 100 butterfly. Anstrom qualified after finishing eighth in the prelims with a time of 49.92.
On the women's side, junior Melissa Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) will be making her first-ever individual appearance in a BIG EAST Conference finals race when she jumps off the blocks in the 100 butterfly on Friday evening. Clune posted a time of 56.92 in the morning prelims to place sixth.
Also on Friday night, Syracuse will have entries in the men's and women's 400 medley relays.
