Swimming and Diving in Sixth Place After Second Day at BIG EAST Championship

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- The Syracuse University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are in sixth place at the 2005 BIG EAST Conference Championship after the second day of action at the Nassau County Aquatics Center. The Notre Dame men and women were both leading the pack after the second day.
Junior captain Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.) was SU's top finisher on Thursday night when he placed fourth in the men's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:30.46. The Orange received 37 points out of the men's 500 freestyle, as senior Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif.) finished fifth with a time of 4:31.64, junior Pat Mugavin (Northport, N.Y.) was 10th with a time of 4:32.01, and sophomore Wes Matson (Wichita, Kansas) finished 16th with a time of 4:40.06.
BIG EAST Championship competition continues Friday morning with preliminary races in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke beginning at 10:30 a.m.
