Luk Boral
Boral Set to Defend His Title in the Men's 200 Breaststroke

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- Sophomore Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) seems poised to win his second consecutive BIG EAST Conference crown in the men's 200 breaststroke after he finished first in the morning prelims with a time of 2:01.91. Boral won the race at last year's BIG EAST Championship with a league-record time of 1:59.30.
Also set to compete in finals races on Saturday, the final night of competition at the Nassau County Aquatics Center, will be freshman Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla.) in the women's 200 butterfly. Duenas was fifth in the prelims with a time of 2:03.50.
Junior Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.), who has qualified for every finals race he has been entered in, will try for a medal in the 200 backstroke. He was fifth in the prelims with a time of 1:49.35. Senior Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif.) will also compete in the men's 200 backstroke. He was eighth during the morning session with a time of 1:51.31.
Freshman Katie Maaske (Jacksonville, Fla.) will be going for her second individual medal of this year's championship meet when she swims in the finals of the women's 200 breaststroke. Maaske was sixth in the prelims with a time of 2:21.24.
Finals races begin at 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 19.
