SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Head coach Lisa Miller and her 2005 Orange squad will open the eighth women's lacrosse season at home against Albany on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 12:00 p.m. Albany comes into the contest with a 1-1 record this year, while SU comes in ranked No. 12 by the IWLCA in its preseason poll.
The Orange own an all-time record of 3-4 in season openers. They are 1-1 in season-opening games at home and have won three straight season-starts, including last year’s 14-13 victory against Virginia.
For just the third time in the program’s eight-year history, Syracuse will begin the season with an opponent that is not Virginia. The Orange has opened the season against Virginia five times in the last six years, the exception coming in 2002 when the Orange began with Sanford.
Sunday’s contest will be the third meeting between Syracuse and Albany. The two teams square off for the first time since 1999. Syracuse holds a 2-0 edge in the all-time series. SU won those two matchups, beating Albany 23-4 on March 29, 1998 and posting an 18-3 triumph on March 20, 1999.
