NEW YORK, NY -- Third-seeded Syracuse (25-6) and number two Connecticut (22-6) meet in the second semifinal of the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday night at 9:00 p.m. The pairing follows the first semifinal between fourth-seeded Villanova (22-6) and #8 West Virginia (20-9).
Syracuse and Connecticut are meeting for the third time this season. The Huskies won a Dome encounter on February 7, 74-66, and defeated the Orange in Storrs, 88-70 on March 5. Connecticut has won five of the last six matchups between the two clubs and is the defending BIG EAST Tournament champion.
Syraucse advanced to the semifinal by beating Rutgers on Thursday night, 81-57. All-American Hakim Warrick had 23 points and 13 rebounds and junior Gerry McNamara had 25 points, including six three-pointers.
The Huskies edged Georgetown, 66-62 in the quarterfinals.
Both BIG EAST Tournament semifinals will be televised by ESPN with Dan Shulman and Len Elmore on the call.
