SU Graduate to Enter Women's Basketball Hall of Fame

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Syracuse University graduate Hunter Low will be one of six people enshrined in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 11 in Knoxville, Tenn. Low graduated from SU in 1956.
Low is often referred to as the “Father of the All-America team.” He was instrumental in creating the Kodak Women’s Basketball All-America Team and managed the program from its inception in 1975 through 1991. He is also credited with providing the impetus for organizing the foundation of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Low served as Manager of U.S. Sports and Events Programs for the Eastman Kodak Company. In that capacity, he was able to make numerous significant contributions to the growth and development of women’s basketball. He was responsible for arranging an international game between the United States and China in 1975 that was held in Rochester, N.Y. He also made arrangements for the U.S. Olympic Women’s team to train in Rochester prior to the 1976 Olympics.
Low’s involvement with women’s basketball began in the early 1970s with coaching clinics sponsored by Kodak.
While at Syracuse, Low served as sports director of WAER in 1955-56.
Other members of the class of 2005 include Joe Ciampi, the former Auburn head coach, Kelli Litsch, a four-time NAIA All-American, Edna Tarbutton, a scholastic coach who won 218 straight games at Baskin High School (La.), Dixie Woodall, a three-time AAU All-American and Lynette Woodard, a four-time Kodak All-American and the first female Harlem Globetrotter.
