SYRACUSE, NY -- Senior forward Hakim Warrick was named the National Player of the Year by Rivals.com on March 16. Warrick was also named to the Rivals.com All-America First Team.
Warrick, who was selected to NABC and USBWA All-America teams last week, has also been tabbed as the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year and CollegeInsider.com’s National Player of the Year.
Warrick leads the Orange in scoring (21.2) and rebounding (8.5) averages. He ranks fifth in career scoring at Syracuse (2,052) just eight points behind Sherman Douglas (2,060). He's fourth in career rebounds (1,013) at SU.
Warrick, the 2005 USBWA District II Player of the Year, was named first-team All-BIG EAST Conference prior to last week's tournament. He capped off Syracuse's conference tournament championship by winning the Dave Gavitt Award as the tournament MVP.
#11/13 Syracuse (27-6) faces Vermont (24-6) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 18, in Worcester, Mass. Tip-off time is 7:10 p.m. in the DCU Center.
