SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Both Syracuse and Princeton are looking to put a stop to their three-game losing streaks this Saturday, March 26, at Class of 1952 Stadium. The game begins at 1 p.m. and will be televised LIVE by CSTV: College Sports Television, and carried locally in Syracuse by Time Warner Channel 26.
The Orange is coming off a disappointing overtime loss to No. 1-ranked Johns Hopkins. Up by as many as six goals in the second quarter (7-1), Syracuse led the entire game until Greg Peyser scored the game-winning goal with 1:34 remaining in overtime. The loss dropped SU’s record to 1-3 on the season. The last time the Orange opened up 1-3 was 1975.
Princeton is off to an 0-3 start after losing to Johns Hopkins (9-6), Virginia (11-7) and Hofstra (9-8). Only the Hopkins game was played at home. The Tigers are ranked No. 15 in this week’s Geico/STX Coaches Poll. Sophomore attackman Scott Sowanick leads the team with seven goals and eight points. Fellow sophomore Peter Trombino also has eight points on the season (three goals and a team-high five assists). Junior Dave Law has started all three games in goal, but goaltender Matthew Larkin has also seen some time.
This will be the 21st meeting between Syracuse and Princeton. The Orange owns a 13-7 advantage in the all-time series and has won four of the last five meetings with the Tigers. Last season, SU came from behind to win a 14-12 decision in Princeton, N.J. The victory was important to the team’s psyche since it came on the heels of a 17-5 loss to Johns Hopkins.
