O'Connell Earns Second-Straight BIG EAST Player of the Week Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Meghan O’Connell (Camillus, N.Y.) earned BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week honors for the second-straight week, earning co-offensive player of the week honors on April 11, along with Connecticut’s Tracy Mullaney. O’Connell was the league’s defensive player of the week last week, April 4.
O’Connell netted the game-winning goals in both of the Orange’s contests last week, helping SU to a 9-8 upset win against No. 13 Cornell and defeat future BIG EAST rival Loyola, 11-9. She registered a hat trick in each of the wins, extending the Orange’s winning streak to six games and improving its overall record to 8-2.
O’Connell is third on the team in goals this season with 19 goals and has 20 total points.
SU travels to No. 7 Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m. The Orange then welcomes Boston College into the Carrier Dome on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. The SU men’s lacrosse team will play Rutgers at 4:00 p.m. following the women’s game on Saturday.
