SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 16 Syracuse women’s varsity eight came in second behind No. 5 Harvard on Onondaga Lake Saturday morning. The fifth-ranked Crimson finished the 2,000-meter race in 6:24.4, while SU crossed the finish line at 6:35.3 and Dartmouth finished third in 6:44.7.
Harvard led the varsity eight race from start to finish and handed the Orange its worst loss of the season by about a length of open water. The varsity four “A”, varsity four “B” and second varsity eight also came in second behind the Crimson, while the novice eight finished third.
“I think all of our crews raced really hard and put in the effort, but it obviously was not enough,” head coach Kris Sanford said. “We will do everything we can to turn it around and get it right.”
Syracuse heads to the BIG EAST Rowing Challenge on April 24 in Worcester, Mass. and hosts UMass and Villanova for the Orange Plus Cup on April 30.
