SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women’s basketball coach Keith Cieplicki announced today that Ashley McMillen has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Orange beginning in 2005-06. McMillen, a graduate of Penfield High School in Penfield, N.Y., just finished her sophomore season at Monroe Community College.
In her two seasons at MCC, McMillen scored 758 points, averaging 12 points and 3.2 assists per game. She set the school record for three-pointers with 182 in just 63 games.
McMillen helped the Lady Tribunes to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association Division II national championships. She was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team both years.
McMillen was a third-team All-Region III pick as a rookie in 2003-04 and earned second-team all-region honors in 2004-05.
“Ashley is an outstanding three-point shooter,” Cieplicki said. “She has been an integral part of back-to-back national championship teams. She is somebody who loves to play the game and knows how to win.”
McMillen is the fifth player to commit to the Orange for next season. She joins Jenny Eckhart (Libertyville, Ill.), Cintia Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y.), Keri Laimbeer (Orchard Lake, Mich.) and Brittany Smith (Milwaukee, Wisc.) as a member of SU’s 2005-06 recruiting class.
