NEW YORK CITY – Syracuse University safety Diamond Ferri signed with the New York Giants on May 6. Ferri ranks seventh on SU’s career tackles by a defensive back list with 226. He was one of 13 players to start all 12 games during the 2004 season. Ferri was an All-BIG EAST First Team Selection and an ECAC Division I All-Star. He was selected to play in the 2005 East-West Shrine All-Star Classic, but did not play due to injury. He set a school record with 161interception return yards, including a touchdown and forced a team-high six fumbles. Ferri became the first player in BIG EAST history to garner the conference’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same week, for his performance at Boston College, where he took over tailback duties for an injured Damien Rhodes and rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries, while posting six tackles, including four solo and returned his team-leading fourth interception 44 yards for a touchdown.
