RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIF. -- The SU women's rowing team finished seventh in a repechage heat at the 2005 NCAA Rowing Championship on May 27, posting a time of 7:04.19 at the California State University Sacramento Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma. The performance was not enough to send the Orange to the semifinals. Instead, SU competed in a consolation race against Michigan State, Wisconsin and UCLA on Saturday, May 28. Syracuse was fourth in that race with a time of 6:56.87.
This was Syracuse's fifth NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2002. The following student-athletes were members of this year's varsity eight:
c Makiko Muraoka
8 Kelly McGrorey
7 Jaime Doerr
6 Anna Goodale
5 Cat Henny
4 Alison Doodeman
3 Katie Schneider
2 Carolyn Taylor
1 Shawna O'Brien
spares:
Casey Irving
Lindsey Lentini
Head coach Kris Sanford summed up the team's feelings prior to competing at this year's NCAA Championship.
"This is a great day for our program," she said. "The last time we went to the NCAA's was in 2002 when this year's seniors were freshmen. It has been a goal of theirs to get the team back there before they graduate, and they accomplished that.
This has been a boat that has showed incredible heart and passion throughout the whole season, and it is those qualities, along with their race preparation, that has helped them to acheive their goal.
We are very excited to go out to California to race against the best crews in the country."
