The multiple facilities improvement projects at Manley Field House are progressing quickly. The SU athletics program will enjoy use of five re-surfaced fields and a multi-million dollar state-of the-art strength and conditioning training facility in the Fall of 2005. Four fields, including the Carrier Dome, will have FieldTurf and a fifth, Coyne Field, will have brand new astroturf and underground water cannons to wet the field prior to games.
SU's two football practice fields -- the Maury Katz and Ben Schwartzwalder Football Practice Fields -- are completely prepared for the installation of the FieldTurf and work on the lacrosse practice field is moving toward that phase. The football practice fields have a projected completion date of July 10 with completion of the lacrosse practice field set for August 10. The Coyne Field astroturf has been completely removed in order to install the underground water cannons and install the new Astro 12. The Coyne Field upgrade is scheduled to be completed by August 1.
The construction of the 11,200 square-foot strength and conditioning training facility outside of the Iocolano-Petty Football Complex is continuing. The facility addition is being built off the existing football training room. The lower level of the complex will be dedicated to free weights and weight machines. The balcony level will be used for aerobic equipment. The replacement of the current Astroturf field in the Carrier Dome will begin on August 3 and is scheduled to be complete on August 25.
