Sullivan and Wreski Named to 2005 All-BIG EAST Preseason Field Hockey Team

PROVIDENCE - Senior forward Paige Sullivan (Lebanon, Pa.) and junior back Jessica Wreski (Middletown, Pa.) were named to the 2005 All-BIG EAST Preseason Field Hockey Team, announced by the league office on August 3. Eleven players were selected to the squad in a vote by the league's head coaches. Sullivan and Wreski are returning starters for the Orange. Sullivan led SU in scoring last season with eight goals and 17 points, while Wreski served an important role as the team's sweeper.
Syracuse was picked to finish fourth in the 2005 BIG EAST Preseason Field Hockey Poll, behind Connecticut (25 points), newcomer Louisville (20 points), and Villanova (18 points). The Orange garnered 12 points in the poll that was conducted by the league's six head coaches. They could not vote for their own team.
The defending BIG EAST field hockey regular season and tournament champion Huskies were unanimously picked to win their seventh regular-season crown. Becky Helwig and Laura Puddle of UConn were named Preseason Co-Offensive Players of the Year. Providence's junior back Lauren Sickel earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
Last season, Coach Kathleen Parker's team posted an 11-9 record and a 3-2 mark in BIG EAST play.
The SU field hockey team opens its season on September 2 in California. The Orange is going to play three games out west, against Pacific at Cal, at Stanford on Sept. 4 and at Cal on Sept. 5. The 2005 home opener is Sept. 9 against Kent.
