Goodale Selected to U.S. Rowing World Championship Women's Eight

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Recent women's rowing graduate Anna Goodale will travel to Gifu, Japan, along with her United States teammates, for the 2005 FISA World Rowing Championships scheduled to run August 28-September 4. After a grueling two-month period of training and tryouts in Princeton, N.J., Goodale was selected to the prestigious U.S. Women's Eight.
"We started the selection process on June 6th," Goodale said. "For two months we raced against each other until they named the athletes on August 3rd."
"It was a very wonderful surprise to make the boat," Goodale continued. "I'm the second-youngest person going and I have a lot to learn. When I first arrived, I kind of thought of myself at the bottom of the rung, but I surprised myself when I started winning races, along with some other people here, I think."
Goodale was a three-time All-America at Syracuse. She graduated with a degree in illustration. As a senior captain, she helped lead the Orange to its fifth NCAA Rowing Championship. She garnered first-team All-Region honors for the third-straight year and was named the 2005 Soladay Award winner and the Orange Plus Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Now that Goodale has gotten a taste of the competitive spirit floating through the national team boathouse, she admits there just might be another goal she will set for herself in the sport of rowing.
"I'd like to go to China for the Olympics in 2008."
US Rowing announced its 2005 National Team roster on Thursday, August 4. In total, 19 crews will represent the United States at the 2005 FISA World Rowing Championships Aug. 28-Sept. 4 in Gifu, Japan.
