SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange hosts its third-consecutive game on Saturday, Sept. 17, when #25/20 Virginia travels to the Dome for the first time. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN2. SU is coming off of a 31-0 win against Buffalo last weekend in which Damien Rhodes rushed for a career-high 236 yards and four touchdowns.
Rhodes was honored as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for his career day, which is the fifth highest single-game rushing total in SU history. Ryan LaCasse, who registered a career-best 3.0 sacks and two forced fumbles, was named to the conference’s weekly honor roll.
In UVA’s first game, quarterback Marques Hagans went 17-25 for a career-high 252 yards and one touchdown in a 31-19 win against Western Michigan. Head coach Greg Robinson said about Hagans, “If he was 6-1, they would be talking about him winning the Heisman. It isn’t just escaping. He escapes, but he also throws the ball. He threatens you in a lot of ways, and he also threatens you in the way he competes.” Read what else Robinson had to say about the upcoming game here.
The Orange defense enters the contest ranked ninth in the nation, allowing 231 yards of offense a game. The 6.5 points allowed per game also puts the defense at ninth in the nation.
Virginia last played in Syracuse in 1977, a 6-3 Orange victory. Last season, the Cavaliers beat SU 31-10 in Charlottesville.
