In the 25-year history of the Carrier Dome, the Orange has not lost a game on September 14. In 2002, the football Orange beat the University of Rhode Island, 63-17. In 1990, the men's soccer team tied Connecticut, 0-0.
Against Rhode Island, running backs Walter Reyes and Damien Rhodes combined for 222 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Reyes and Rhodes became the first tailback tandem to rush for multiple touchdowns in one game since Dee Brown and James Mungro both had two against Temple in 2000. Orange quarterback R.J. Anderson completed 13-of-18 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns.
On the soccer pitch, before 1,184 fans in a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Connecticut, SU goalie Steve Pollnow recorded eight saves. SU outshot the Huskies 21-16.
To celebrate the first 25 years of the Carrier Dome events are planned throughout the week leading up to an "Anniversary Party" on Saturday, September 17 prior to the SU football game against Virginia.

Saturday, September 17
Fans are invited to enjoy a birthday cake celebrating the Dome’s 25th anniversary at the Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield Fun Zone on the SU Quad prior to the game. There will be enough cake for the first 500 fans. At halftime of the game, SU will honor those who were instrumental in building the Carrier Dome. The Dome officially opened on September 20, 1980 when the football Orange beat Miami, OH, 36-24.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980, when the Orange football team beat Miami (OH), 36-24, in front of 50,564 fans, which still remains the largest crowd for a football game in the Dome. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
There have been more than 1,740 events since opening day, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with this photo history walking tour.
