The Orange football squad has played Miami (OH) twice. Both games were staged in the Carrier Dome. They were on back-to-back dates. In 1987, Syracuse beat Miami, 24-10, on September 19. In 1980, the Orange and the Redhawks squared off in the first-ever event in the Dome, on September 20.
In the contest played September 19, 1987, Orange quarterback Don McPherson completed 15-of-24 passes for 256 yards and threw two touchdown passes. SU also lost to Ohio State, 35-12, on this date in 1992. In that game Orange wide receiver Shelby Hill caught a career-high seven passes for 122 yards.
The SU men's soccer team beat the University of Connecticut, 4-3, on September 19, 1986, to improve its record to 5-0-1.
