
Field Hockey Loses 3-0 Decision to No. 7-Ranked Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Annelise Legel scored off a crossing pass from Natalie Berrna just 1:16 into the contest and the No. 7-ranked Penn State field hockey team never looked back as it defeated Syracuse, 3-0. It was the 11th consecutive victory for the Nittany Lions who improved to 11-1 on the season. The Orange's record is now 4-6.
Shaun Banta scored Penn State's other two goals. She took a shot from the top of the circle at 25:19 of the first half to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead. Carey Maser assisted.
At the 44:30 mark, Banta slapped in a rebound for the game's third goal.
Freshman Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) started in goal for Syracuse. She had three saves and allowed three goals before head coach Kathleen Parker substituted sophomore Marie O'Brien (Burlington, Ontario/Assumption) in with 23:28 remaining in the contest. O'Brien finished the game with three saves.
Penn State outshot Syracuse, 16-5. The Orange managed three penalty corners in the game, while the Nittany Lions forced eight corners.
Junior back Michelle Sola (Blandon, Pa./Oley Valley) attempted a team-high two shots.
Megan Akstin and Jen Beaumont split time in goal for Penn State.
The Orange will next be in action at home on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. against Massachusetts. A victory will give Coach Parker her 300th career win on her home turf at Coyne Field.
