
Field Hockey Hosts Massachusetts on Sept. 30

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse and Massachusetts square off in field hockey on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at Coyne Field. It will be the Orange’s first home game since the Sept. 18th Hofstra contest. SU has been on the road for its last three outings. The Orange split a pair of games played in Louisville, Ky. last weekend with a 3-1 victory against St. Louis on Sept. 24, and a 6-0 loss to No. 13-ranked Louisville on Sept. 25. On Wednesday, Sept. 28, Syracuse played another nationally-ranked opponent when it traveled to University Park, Pa. to face No. 7-ranked Penn State. The Nittany Lions defeated the ‘Cuse, 3-0. The Orange owns a season record of 4-6 and a 1-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
SERIES WITH MASSACHUSETTS
This will be the 15th meeting between Syracuse and Massachusetts. The Orange holds an 8-5-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won each of the past six meetings, including last year’s 4-1 victory in Amherst. The last win for UMass against Syracuse came in 1998. The Minutewomen posted a 3-0 win at home.
FRY AND SULLIVAN NECK AND NECK IN GOAL SCORING
Senior forward Paige Sullivan had a goal and an assist, while junior forward Ashley Fry scored a goal in SU’s 3-1 win against St. Louis last weekend. Both players each have a team-high six goals on the season. For Fry, the six goals in a season is a new career high. Sullivan’s season best came last year when she tallied eight goals.
ANGELLELLA SCORES FIRST CAREER GOAL
Freshman back Brittany Angellella tallied her first collegiate goal at the 48:10 mark against St. Louis. It came off a penalty corner and gave the Orange a 3-0 lead. Angellella has started in all 10 games this season. She played in 10 games last year, including her first career start against Boston College in the 2004 BIG EAST semifinals.
HESS TIED FOR 18th in the NATION IN SAVES
Freshman goalkeeper Heather Hess has 62 saves on the season. In the Sept. 26 national statistics, she was tied for 18th in the nation in total saves.
A WIN TONIGHT MEANS 300TH FOR PARKER
SU’s Kathleen Parker will become the sixth active NCAA Division I field hockey coach to record 300 career victories if the Orange defeat Massachusetts. She currently owns a record of 299-202-14 in 28 seasons at Syracuse. Only Beth Anders (Old Dominion), Nancy Stevens (UConn), Karen Shelton (North Carolina), Char Morett (Penn State) and Sally Starr (Boston University) have more wins.
