SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse resumes BIG EAST competition Saturday as West Virginia comes to the Webster Pool for the Orange’s second conference meet of the season. The men’s team enters Saturday’s meet with a record of 1-1 (0-1 BIG EAST), while the women are 0-2 (0-1 BIG EAST). The Orange comes into the meet after training in Puerto Rico from Jan. 2-10.
The men’s team has been led by junior Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) who ranks ninth nationally and first in the BIG EAST in the 200-breaststroke and 20th in the country in the 100-breast. He will be tested this weekend as West Virginia’s Nick Delic comes in ranked fifth in the country and first in the league in the 100-breast.
Senior Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.) leads the Orange in first place finishes this season with seven. Boral and senior Ryan Caponera (Latham, N.Y.) each have five gold finishes.
Sophomore Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla.) has been stellar this season as she has 11 first place finishes and ranks in the top 60 in the country in three events (200-butterfly, 200-individual medley and 400-IM).
