SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The women’s rowing team returned from its winter training trip in Austin, Texas last week. The crew spent a week in the Lone Star State training for the upcoming season and taking in the local culture. It was the team’s first trip to Austin after spending recent winter breaks in Florida. The squad had practices twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. In between sessions, the team broke down video, participated in team building activities, and did some small boat rowing. The overall goals for the week included improving fitness and technique while getting in as many strokes as possible.
Time on the water in Austin was spent in eights, fours, and pairs with mixed lineups as well as ranked boats.
On the last day of the trip, Jan. 11, SU competed in an inter-squad race that consisted of a blue team and an orange team. Each team fielded two eights and competed in a round robin tournament. The blue team, captained by junior Katie Schneider, won the competition with a 3-1 record.
Along with its training, the team got to spend some time in Austin to experience the state’s capital. The Orange stayed in the downtown area and was able to experience some of the local culture.
Upon its return to The Hill, the team trained prior to the beginning of classes on Jan. 17.
