AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 6, 2006 - The Syracuse women's rowing team arrived in Austin yesterday for its annual winter training trip. The Orange opted to travel to the Lone Star State this year instead of going to its usual destination in Florida.
The crew will be in Austin until next Thursday, Jan. 12. The team returns for the remaining days of winter break before classes begin again on the 17th.
SU had its first row this morning. The team's daily schedule includes a morning and afternoon row with small boats, video reviews, and team building in between practice sessions. For the week, the Orange looks to improve overall fitness and technique while getting in as many strokes as possible.
"This is the first time we ever went to Texas," said head coach Kris Sanford, "We came here for a change of scenery. We had heard it was a great place to train and we are happy to be trying it out."
The crew is tentatively scheduled to row against Columbia and Central Florida in Melbourne, Fla. on March 18. After that, SU will compete in the Stanford Invitational on March 25-26.
