The Syracuse men’s basketball team has a perfect 4-0 record in games played in the Carrier Dome on this date during the past 25 years, while the women’s basketball squad won its only game played in the building on this date.
Junior guard Gerry McNamara scored a game-high 23 points, had four assists and three steals to help No. 6/7 Syracuse to a 75-50 victory against Seton Hall in front of a crowd of 25,578 on this date in 2005. Hakim Warrick finished the game with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Craig Forth hit double figures for the third time that season with 10 points. McNamara shot 7-for-11 from the field, including four-of-seven from three-point range. The win improved SU’s record to 15-1 overall, 2-0 in league play.
In 2002, former Orange standout Louis Orr returned the Dome as head coach of the Seton Hall Pirates. Six SU players scored in double figures to spoil Orr’s return to the Loud House as the Orange defeated the Pirates, 85-70. Preston Shumpert led all scorers with 19 points. Junior DeShaun Williams scored 10 of his 18 points in the second half and added seven assists.
Lawrence Moten scored a team-high 21 points and John Wallace had 13 points and 11 rebounds in Syracuse’s 79-75 win against Pittsburgh in 1994. The Orange led 40-29 at halftime, but Pittsburgh chipped away at the 11-point deficit and took the lead, 67-66, with 2:33 remaining. Following two free throws by Wallace and a Panthers’ basket, Moten gave SU the lead for good with a dunk and a free throw for a three-point play. Moten scored seven of SU’s final 12 points to secure the victory.
In 1985, Dwayne Washington and Rafael Addison both scored 20 points to lead Syracuse to a 64-58 victory against Boston College.
The women’s basketball squad also played on this date in 1985. The Orange defeated Seton Hall, 82-54. Syracuse went on to win the BIG EAST Tournament that season and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament where it lost to Old Dominion, 88-63.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
