Syracuse University Athletics Director Dr. Daryl Gross hired Scott Sidwell as the associate athletics director for development. A 1994 graduate of Tulane University, Sidwell was the associate athletics director for external operations at his alma mater for the past two years after serving as associate athletics director for corporate development from 2000 through 2003. At Syracuse, Sidwell will be responsible for leading the major campaign for capital projects/facilities, managing all major gift planning and donor naming opportunities, structuring the “SU Tomorrow” campaign, and managing the Orange Pack office and staff.
“Scott brings valuable expertise from a private institution at Tulane where he did a wonderful job fundraising,” Gross said. “His experiences parallel the needs of Syracuse athletics. I have known him through the years. He has an incredible reputation.”
At Tulane, Sidwell was responsible for all aspects of the athletics department’s external operations. He supervised the staff in the athletics department development (Tulane Athletic Fund), sales and marketing, radio and television, special events and game presentation, and media/public relations. He was the Executive Director of the T Club Letterman’s Association and the campaign coordinator for the Perpetual Wave capital campaign. In addition, Sidwell supervised the Green Wave baseball, men’s golf and track programs.
Prior to joining the Green Wave staff, Sidwell was the director of marketing operations for the New Orleans Saints from 1998 to 2000 and was the director of group sales for the New Orleans Zephyrs from 1996 to 1997.
Sidwell started his career in intercollegiate athletics as an assistant baseball coach at Tulane after earning two varsity baseball letters for the Green Wave in 1993 and 1994. He transferred to Tulane from Brown University, where he began his collegiate career and was named All-Ivy League in 1991.
Sidwell and his wife, Samantha, have a daughter, Madison, and a son, Beau.
