Orange Loses First BIG EAST Dual Meets to Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa..- The Syracuse men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost their first BIG EAST dual meets of the season at Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 28. The men (1-1) lost, 150-91, while the women (0-2) lost, 156-86.
On the men’s side, freshman Alex Taraskin had another stellar performance for the Orange. Taraskin won the 500 free (4:42.09) and the 1000 free (9:45.51). Sophomore Matt Gerlach placed second in the 1000 free (9:50.34). Senior Luk Boral placed first in the 200 breast (2:05.29) and qualified for the BIG EAST in the 200 free with a second place finish (1:44.77).
For the women, graduate student Alida DiPlacido won both the one-meter (268.73) and three-meter (310.28) diving events for the third-consecutive meet. DiPlacido has not lost a diving event in her first season with the Orange. Freshmen Katelyn Schumacher and Masha Glukhova both recorded first place finishes for Syracuse. Schumacher won the 200 fly (2:08.94) and Glukhova won the 200 breast (2:22.51).
The Orange is off for two weeks before taking part in the Nike Cup, November 16-18, at the University of North Carolina.
