Orange Secures Third Consecutive Winning Season With 3-2 Victory

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior back Jess Wreski (Middletown, Pa.) scored two goals, including the game winner as the Syracuse University field hockey team defeated Dartmouth, 3-2, in overtime in the Orange’s season finale. The Orange end the season 10-9 overall, SU’s third consecutive winning season. The Big Green move to 3-13.

The Big Green started out hot, pressuring Syracuse's defense from the beginning. Dartmouth took advantage of its first penalty corner in just the second minute of play, when Lizzie Bildner tipped a shot from Whitney Waugh into the lower right side of the cage, giving Dartmouth an early lead.

Sophomore forward Alison Babbitt (Spencer, N.Y.) evened the score at one apiece in the 15th minute of play when she redirected a shot from senior forward Megan Stuart (New Holland, Pa.) that beat Big Green net minder Ashley Heist to the right hand side.

Going into the second half, the score sheet looked fairly even. Both teams had mustered up five shots on goal, and the scoreboard was tied at ones.

The Orange broke the tie early in the second half, as Wreski blasted a shot to the lower left side of the cage, beating a stretched out Heist.

But the Big Green's special teams fought their way back mid-way through the second stanza. Megan Strout pushed a corner chance out to a loaded Ashley Hines who rifled a shot towards the cage. Before Orange goalie junior Marie O'Brien (Burlington, Ontario) could get a piece of it, Bildner tipped it in from the weak side.

Overtime was cut short, as the Orange was given a penalty shot just three minutes into the session. Wreski buried the shot to the upper left corner, beating a diving Heist, for the win.

O’Brien ended the contest making two saves, while Heist made six in the loss.
