
Hopkins Honored For Recruiting Efforts

Syracuse men's basketball assistant coach Mike Hopkins has been named to the Rivals.com Class of 2006 Top 25 recruiters list. Hopkins was pivotal in the recruitment of Gerry McNamara and Paul Harris among several other Syracuse players.
Hopkins is entering his 11th season as an assistant coach with the Orange, following a very successful playing career under Jim Boeheim. A four-time letter winner, Hopkins was one of the most popular players in Syracuse basketball history. He joined the coaching staff in 1995 and added recruiting to his job description in the summer of 2000. Hopkins coaches the Orange backcourt members and has tutored such SU greats as Allen Griffin, Jason Hart, Josh Pace, and McNamara. He has served un Boeheim as an assistant for the USA Men's National Under-21 team in 2000 and 2001.
Ohio State assistant coach Jim Groce was named the Recruiter of the Year Rivals.com, after helping the Buckeyes bring in the number two recruiting class this past season. Hopkins joins assistants from Connecticut, Georgetown, Louisville, and Villanova in representing the BIG EAST in the top 25.
The Orange hosts the BCA Invitational to open the 2006-07 season. Syracuse welcomes UTEP, Penn and St. Francis (N.Y.) for the three day event, November 10-12.
