SYRACUSE, NY -- Senior forward Demetris Nichols has moved to the head of the BIG EAST Conference class with his recent offensive outburst. Nichols, who is averaging 19.6 points per outing, leads the league in scoring average, just a shade ahead of Villanova's Curtis Sumpter (19.5).
Nichols is on scoring surge that saw him score 26, 28, 28, 31 and 20 points in the last five contests (26.6 ppg.). During that span he has converted 48-of 84 field goals (.571), including 19-of-34 three-point tries (.559), and has made 18-of-19 (.947) from the foul line.
He's also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per outing in the five games.
Nichols has earned BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week honors once and a spot on the weekly honor roll four times this season.
Syracuse, 10-3 on the year, returns to action on Dec. 30 when it hosts St. Bonaventure in the Carrier Dome.
