The Orange came back from a 10-point deficit with 8:57 left in the game to earn the victory. Carmelo Anthony scored 10 points down the stretch, including six from the foul line. At the 6:31 mark, McNamara drove the lane and connected on a jump shot that tied the game at 69. Syracuse would catch up to the Irish five more times down the stretch, as Matt Carroll single-handedly kept putting Notre Dame ahead, scoring 11 points in the final six minutes.
At 1:31, Anthony laid in a basket to give SU its first lead since the 15:18 mark of the half, 79-77. Carroll hit a trifecta with 30 seconds on the clock to give the Irish a one-point advantage, 80-79, and McNamara hit his game-winning three on the next possession. Notre Dame got the ball back and Carroll shot for the tie, but was rejected by junior Jeremy McNeil, his fourth block of the game. Hakim Warrick came up with the ball and threw it toward the roof as the clock ran out.
In 1994, John Wallace scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Adrian Autry scored 22 points to lead SU to a 79-74 win against Providence. Syracuse led much of the first half, but the Friars ended the half on a 15-6 scoring run to take a 41-38 halftime lead. Providence led by as many as 14 in the second half and held a 65-57 advantage with 6:52 remaining. Wallace and Autry combined for seven points during a 10-2 SU scoring run that tied the score with 5:38 left on the clock. The two teams traded baskets before the Orange took the lead for good on Autry's layup with less than a minute remaining. Syracuse was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 33.8 seconds to secure the victory.
The men's basketball squad played three other times in the Dome on this date. In 1993, Lawrence Moten scored 21 points in an 80-76 loss to Connecticut. A year earlier, Syracuse lost to Notre Dame, 101-98. In 1982, the Orange lost to Villanova, 81-69.
In addition to hoops action, the Dome has hosted the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championship twice on this date. In 1985, SU's Mark Gooden won the men's high jump, while Sharon Daniels won the women's long jump for the second straight year. The men's 1600-meter relay also finished first. The Dome also hosted the conference meet on this date in 1997.
