Persico Named 2005-06 BIG EAST Aéropostale Scholar-Athlete

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Senior Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.) of the Syracuse University men’s swim team was announced as a 2005-06 BIG EAST/Aéropostale Male Scholar-Athlete Award winner on Wednesday. Persico will receive $2,000 toward graduate studies.
The BIG EAST/Aéropostale Scholar-Athlete Awards were established to recognize student-athletes who have achieved success in the classroom and on the field. In the pool this season, Persico has finished first a team-best 15 times this season and ranks in the top 60 in the country in three events.
Persico, who is competing with his Orange teammates at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 15-18, is a four-time member of the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll at SU and has been a BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Persico is a communication and rhetorical studies major at Syracuse.
